Moonkan Park is owned and operated by Matt and Kristie Lisle, who purchased the property in 2019 following years of drought and declining land condition. The Lisles recognised the property’s longterm production potential and committed to rebuilding both productivity and landscape function through improved grazing management.
Located within the Fitzroy catchment, Moonkan Park sits in an area identified as a priority for reducing fine sediment runoff to the Great Barrier Reef. In 2021, the Lisles partnered with Verterra through the Fitzroy Water Quality Program.
Working alongside the Lisles and Queensland
Department of Agriculture and Fisheries extension
officers, Verterra developed a whole-of-property
Grazing Land Management Plan focused on improving pasture condition, increasing carrying
capacity, and reducing erosion risk through sustainable grazing practices.
Moonkan Park became one of the foundational
projects underpinning the development of DROVER Land Management, demonstrating how improved land condition can simultaneously deliver productivity gains, drought resilience, and measurable water quality outcomes.
“This project showed us what can be achieved through whole-of property planning and long-term thinking. The changes we’ve made have improved both productivity and land condition, while setting the property up for the future.”
